First of all, a happy new year to all of you! Although I must admit, I don’t think I’m even allowed to wish you a happy new year anymore. Oh well..
Anyway, with the new year come new chances, ‘an empty new book to write’ and those kind of phrases. I decided to write myself a good one, starting with the new year’s dive me and two of my friends participated in.
To inform you, the new year’s dive is exactly what it sounds like: 10.000 crazy Dutch people running into freezing cold water whilst the temperature is barely above zero. But I must say, it was quite refreshing actually! I took the dive when I hadn’t even slept yet, I even might still have been a little tipsy, but after my dive, I was totally awake and feeling so fresh, yes literally.
So we like to say this year can only be good after this refreshing great start (We had been trying to participate for 5 year already, but failed every year ‘till now)
Together with the new year, also come new fashion challenges and a new bucket list for 2015! On my bucket list is, of course, my trip to South Africa, among things like running half a marathon, sending a message in a bottle and doing more ‘random acts of kindness’.
I already did some random acts of kindness, so that is working for me so far! And in order to save some more for my African trip I’ve came up with a new fashion challenge for next month. Or, well, it isn’t exactly new, but it has been a year since I last tried this, so I thought it would be fun to try it again next month: The 30 days, 30 outfits challenge! And of course I’m not allowed to shop during those 30 days. I might extend this prohibition to 60 days, since I bought way too many pieces of clothing lately and I really may not buy any more!
Well I think I’ve said enough for today, I shouldn’t talk for all the days I’ve missed to write (moment of shame for this one)
Speak to you soon xoxo
We’re already in the last week of my 1-item-a-week challenge. Choosing an item for upcoming week is a bit difficult since it is quite warm at the moment, but it’ll be colder again once the weekend comes. But since it’s so sunny, I’ll go for my white singlet, as it just gives a feeling like summer. Also, I’m working on my tan, so hopefully I’ll soon be beautifully tanned, everything just looks better that way anyway.
But let’s first check out the outfits I wore last week:
Light blue leather jacket – Zara, Black t-shirt – here, Grey jeans – Pieces, White sweater and leather pants – H&M, White trousers – here, Black cut-out boots – Topshop, Light grey jeans – Bershka, Long striped dress – Primark
Today is Wednesday, which means another week of my challenge has past by and a new one has started. (I’ve actually wanted to write this yesterday, but my stupid exam got in the way – time management!)
Last week I’ve been trying to combine my singlet with as many different outfits as possible. You can check below what I’ve been wearing. Btw, last Thursday there was a big outdoor event I had to attend, unfortunately it rained almost the entire day. Nevertheless we’ve had a great time! But for that reason, I chose to wear a sweater instead of my singlet, also, I didn’t want my singlet to get all dirty because I had to wear it several more days. Also, I wore the singlet twice with my dark blue jeans and a jacket, but the dark blue has unfortunately died, so it is at the clothing guy at the moment.
Red singlet, H&M, Short white blazer – Bershka, Nudie jeans – A friend, Leather jacket – similar here, Black destroyed jeans – Bershka, Black jeans, here, Lilac sweater – Cheap Monday, Black blazer – similar here, Leather skirt – H&M, Long white blazer – Topshop, Leather short – H&M
This week is already the third week of my challenge, time flies! The item I’ve chosen for this week is my baby blue leather jacket. I’ve chosen for this one because it’s really spring-like and considering the weather is getting better, but isn’t totally there yet, I think it’s an excellent choice, since you can wear it for indoor as well as outdoor.
As for my second challenge, I still haven’t bought anything, SO PROUD!! So maybe I can extend it for some time. I’ll consider that before my next challenge update.
It has been a week since I’ve started my last challenge, which means it is time for an update. I must first confess, I made a very stupid mistake. Last Thursday I attended a party in Leiden, which is about 3 hours away from Groningen, so I stopped by at my mom’s place, since she lives halfway. But during that short stop I had to switch clothes and you can already guess, I’ve left my leather pants at my mom’s. (SHAME!!!) I tried to make it up to you and myself by using my leather shorts for the rest of this challenge instead of my long pants.
Also, I have forgotten to make photos of my outfit every day, so the pictures of the first part of the week have to wait some more. (Note to self: TAKE PICTURES!)
Leather shorts – H&M, Cut-out boots – Topshop, Pullover – Zara
Cowboy boots – Zara, T-shirt – H&M
T-shirt – Zara, Hat – H&M, Boots – Steve Madden
The pictures you see above are from Friday, Saturday, Sunday and yesterday at the Freedom Festival. (Yes, I wore the same outfit twice for lack of normal clothing that I’m suffering from and I made some logistical bad decisions about the clothing distribution between me and my parents)
Freedom festival is all about celebrating the freedom we have and rethinking the war which luckily for us ended 69 years ago now. But I believe it is important to still dwell on the fact that freedom isn’t self-evident.
Anyway, as for my other challenge, not shopping more than one item for 30 days, is actually going quite well! I’ve seen a lot of beautiful items, but I haven’t shopped anything yet. I do have an idea what I’m going to buy though.
And of course, my new item-for-a-week!
For this week I’ve chosen my red singlet from H&M. Because it’s elegant, but you can totally dress it up or down as you want it. Also, we have extremely changing weather here, one moment it’s warm and sunny and the other it’s raining a lot, so this top seems appropriate.
It has been a while since my first challenge has stopped and as I have just started my challenge, I’ve had some time off.
And as any other shop-loving girl would do, I took my prerogative to shop very seriously. Unfortunately, I still don’t have the budget I, and mostly my shopping desire, need, but let’s not let that spoil the fun! I, as well, would’ve loved to add a beautiful new watch to the collection today – to make up for my bad day. But as I’m having a TERRIBLY bad day (but seriously, my phone broke, I bit my lip, which made me look like a retard and I had prepared the wrong part in class), the watch was sold out, so I’ll have to wait some more for my baby.
Anyway, let’s take a look at the item I did buy in the last month.
L. Blue leather jacket – Zara, White pants – H&M
T-Shirts – Both H&M, Lingerie – Victoria’s Secret
Nike Air Max Thea – Nike
As promised, I’ve chosen one of my favorite items for my new ‘uniform challenge’, for which I’ll pick one of my favorite items each week for 4 weeks. Then, I’ll wear this for a week paired with different outfits.
The first item I’m going to mix and match with is.. my leather trousers!
I’ll start this challenge on Tuesday, as I don’t have my pair of leather trousers with me. (I’m at my parent’s place now) Anyway, I’m very excited about what these next weeks will bring when it comes to my imagination.
I’ve already started my one item-one month challenge yesterday, which is already quite hard (good lord) after my big shopping spree in march, shopping is way too addictive!!
I am sorry for the bad quality photo though. Last week, when I was on holiday in England, someone (sshle) stole my camera. I’m currently saving and searching for a proper new one, so if anyone has any tips on what camera to buy or other camera tips, please let me know!
For now I’ll go back to my clothing and food crises.
My sincere apologies for not writing for so long. I’ve been very very busy last week. I’ve had my last two exams for this period, which I’ve hopefully passed, or at least one of them.
And right after that my grandparents had their 50-years wedding anniversary. Isn’t crazy how you can spend so many years together with one person. I know this sounds so wrong, but trust me, I don’t mean it like that. It’s more that when I look at myself, I can’t imagine that anyone could spend so many years with me without going mental. But who knows.
Anyway, that wasn’t my point of today. The point is that I almost completed my challenge, only one more day left!
30 days of not shopping and not wearing the same outfit twice. As I think I can handle that last day as well now that I’ve completed the other 29, I can consider this done!
Nevertheless I cannot say I’m totally satisfied with the result. I mean, I did not shop nor wear the same outfit twice, which is nice. But my whole point of doing this in the first place still isn’t accomplished. I honestly thought that not spending all my money on clothes would provide me with much more savings, but instead I’ve probably wasted it on unimportant sh*t. (I know myself well)
So for the next time I’ll be doing this I’ll implement a new rule: save the money which you’d normally spend on clothes. I believe that will pay off, since I tend to magically make money appear out of nowhere whenever I want to buy something. Saving all this miracle cash will hopefully actually get me somewhere.
But I don’t want to do the same challenge again right now. Even though I’ve already looked up some other fun challenges, I’m not quite sure yet what my next challenge is going to be. So if anyone has an excellent idea, please let me know! (actually any idea will due)
For my before last outfit challenge outfits: (I’m sorry, the jacket of day 26 is missing, so I don’t have a picture of that day) (And again for being lazy and busy and not making proper photos)
Yesterday was one of the toughest days during my challenge, because yesterday was ‘stufi-day’.
stufi stands for study finance. Yes, you’re hearing me correctly.
Each 24th of the month, i the beautiful day when I get my study finance for being such a loyal hard working student, cough.
Although I must say, I’ve been working quite hard last month (still having exams until Thursday, please save me!!!).
And even when I don’t work hard, I do. At least I feel like I do, which counts as well.
But leaving my opinion on stufi for now, it is also a very difficult moment, because now I’m actually able to buy the things I want.
All this time I thought coping with discount codes was hard, I hadn’t seen nothing yet. I don’t even know how to explain, but I’m sure many can compare already.
For the rest of it, I’m handling myself pretty well luckily, and once I survived this, I know I can do anything, so empowering!
Day 16: Jacket – Small local store, Vogue shirt – Dutch Vogue, Grey Jeans – Bershka, Sneakers – H&M
Day 17: Leather jacket – H&M, Lace top – Albufeira, Grey jeans – Pieces, Heels – Mango
And now we’re here, back at the bottom.
Strange start, I know, but trust me, this is heading somewhere. Anywhere.
Since today is day 16(ALREADY!) of my challenge, which means I’m halfway there, only 14 days left.
Time flies when you’re having fun, only I’m not having that much fun because I’m still busy with my exams, so I’ll just leave it at ‘time flies’.
Anyway, although it was going great until a couple of days ago, I’m kind of starting to panic now.
I’m not sure whether it is because I genuinely have nothing to wear anymore, or because I just want to shop when seeing the rest of the world shop. Okay, even I, in my delirium, could tell that it’s probably just the addiction kicking in, but it’s really frustrating!
You know those moments when you’ve seen so many great things, that no matter what you think of, these items will pop into your head.
For instance, I could think of a park and only seconds later I would see myself walking through that park in a beautiful new outfit.
And don’t even deny it, I know at least almost every girl has this paranormal activity going on.
So I’ll just try to ignore the little voice in my head for now and start searching for a new outfit, while I’ll show you the ones I wore the last 3 days.
Day 13: Jacket – Vero Moda, Top – H&M, Short – Vintage
Day 14: Jacket – H&M, Blouse – Zara, Jeans – Bershka, Heels – Mango
Day 15: Faux fur coat – ASOS, Cow jumper – H&M, Jeans – ASOS, Boots – Steve Madden
Today is day three of my challenge and I must say, it’s challenging. Not in ways that I have nothing to wear, but I already want to shop so badly!
No, luckily I’m not running out of outfits yet, I mean, I am a women, we own clothes, a lot of them.
But as a lot of females out there, I have an urge to shop for new things very often. And where I would normally go through all the stores, getting my hopes up about buying a new shirt or some beautiful heels. I now have to sit at home and resist going anywhere, because karma seems to have a habbit of handing you tons of great shopping items whenever there is a time when you’re either broke, or not allowed to buy anything. Only this time even ASOS let me down when I found their ‘10% extra off’ email in my inbox this morning. I can only hope there comes a day during this challenge (or in life) when I can open my inbox or go outside like an independent young woman, resisting all these temptations, but untill then I will just have to sit around and writing about how miserable this is. And maybe write some essays for uni in the meantime, it is exam period after all.
For now I will just show you the pictures of the first three days of my challenge.
(Oh, and I’m sorry in advance for the bad quality of the pictures, my camera let me down, so untill I have fixed that, I am depending on the crappy camera of my mobile phone.)
Learther pants – H&M, Blouse – second hand, Necklace – Primark
Shirt – Zara, Jeans – Nudie Jeans, Sheepskin – Monki
Vest – Pieces, Jacket – H&M, Jeans – ASOS, Shoes – Topshop
